San Antonio Public Libraries: Staff Development Day
Library 2.0 Sessions
speaker: Starr Hoffman
10.08.2007
On October 8th, all public libraries in San Antonio will be closed so that staff (approximately 450) may convene at the Municipal Auditorium for a full day of Staff Development. It is intended to be a day of opportunities for personal and professional development. In the past, they have had training on user-specific library services, professional organizations, retirement planning, and also fun things like office yoga and Dance Dance Revolution.
Session 1:
Feeling a little rusty, or a little lost, in technology-related discussions? Or perhaps you'd like to see how current your "techie skills" are? Starr Hoffman will list some basic librarian tech competencies and suggest ways to improve your skills.
Session 2:
Have you heard this "Library 2.0" phrase, but you're not quite sure what it means? Or perhaps you know a little about it, but don't understand how to use it in your library? Starr Hoffman will explain what Library 2.0 is, some ways it's being used in other libraries, and quick-and-easy ways that you can incorporate it into yours.
Session 3:
So, you'd love to try your hand at some library 2.0 projects, and you'd love to read about what other librarians are doing with new technologies, but... who's got the time? Starr Hoffman will show some ingenious and easily-implemented ideas for managing and making time for 2.0.
We'd like to have Library 2.0 topics for all three sessions. I'm thinking something along the lines of tech competencies, being a 21st Century Librarian, and something about how to use blogs to keep up with the bigger library world.
