Getting Started

Define:

• purpose
  • define needs
• audience
  • define roles--such as students with assignments, etc.
• potential topics
• format
• series-how often will you publish?
  • finite, monthly, irregular?
  • what resources needed for doing this regularly?
  • schedule for creating content regularly?
• equipment needs

Example

• has online course (mainly text and images)
• would like to incorporate audio for variety
• misses instructor presence in the course
• what are advantages over streaming audio?

Audience

• characteristics
• motivations
• role

audience = undergrad students

• many commute to campus (protability = good)
• often download lessons and work offline
• has some hearing/visually disabled students in course

• will need transcripts or captioning for those with disabilities

• select topics and "chunk sizes" for each episode
• smaller chunks = easier to re-use content in other contexts
