15 searchable fields (no qualifiers)

notes = indexed, but not searchable as a field

can search just metadata fields, or metadata fields + full text

tokenize (google "and"ing)

also phrase search

also (some optional): quotes, stemming, relevance ranking, proximity, weight relevance of search terms (individually), limit search by any of 15 fields

date-year (4-digit year, publication date) -- used only for sorting; blank if creation is a range

creation date -- date it hit DLS (for RSS feeds)

system -- example, CRS

collection -- example, UNTGD

institution -- example, UNT

can combine creator and contributor into "author" search (for user interface)

what are people going to search for? and how?

can sort by any field (and relevance)

(no-date items in search/sort?)

what about multiple creators (for sorting)? Mark will try this
