Julia Butterfly Hill (JBH) Contract Update

• contract will be faxed and signed today
  • then we can really start publicity
• asked for tree planting at 3pm

• broadcast of JBH's presentation
  • asked for two archival copies of presentation

  • her legal team is concerned about her rights
  • negotiating length of time we are allowed to broadcast
    • asking for three weeks
  • removed option for dinner with organizers
    • very long rider made it difficult

Talking Points

• purposefully do not mention "environment" theme because of idea of this being an annual event
• larger than the one book, one community program
  • a full month of programming, rather than a few days or one week

Committee Charges

• went through committee charges (see handout from Annie)

JBH Committee

• venue for JBH presentation
  • need to find a place that seats 1,000 people
    • Gateway Conference Center
      • first choice; Monika will start trying to see about this one
      • well-lit
      • previously used for Anne Richards and worked well
      • good parking
      • easy to find for non-UNT-ers
    • Silver Eagle Suite

      • too small?
  • Cathy of the TX Book Festival might be good idea as JBH committee chair (Donna knows her)

Children's Festival

• Donna presented a number of possible booths/events
  • (see handout); additional activity discussed are listed below
  • birds of prey program
  • Camp Tonkowa / April Holtzman: survival skills, etc.
  • contact with Lou Jacobs, SMU prof with dinos and sandbox
  • "The Lorax..."

Fundraising

• most pressing committee at the moment: fundraising
• would be good to have logo finished soon to put on fundraising materials (also website)
• fundraising should also see about donations in-kind, such as bottled water for the children's festival

Publicity

• set up proxy rights for these committee members in Google calendar
• need webmaster (doesn't have to attend meetings)
  • currently, Bobby and Starr will share this responsibility
• website is designed; currently needs content

Graphics Team

• would be good to have logo finished soon to put on fundraising materials (also website)
• Starr will work with Bobby as webmaster for the site

Community Program Partnerships

• Sue has several ideas about activities
  • 2 JBH documentaries (@ Movie Tavern?)
  • lots of new evironment-themed documentaries (Who Killed the Electric Car, etc.)
  • budget concerns
    • coordinate between UNT Libraries and Movie Tavern
    • licensing fees
    • charge for admission?
    • Friends of the UNT Libraries do fundraiser?
  • length of film activities
    • a series, or a single event?
    • film festival over a weekend?
      • many other Denton events on weekends in April
    • spread throughout the month on Tuesdays or Thursdays
• all programs should be presented at or sponsored by one of the local libraries
  • all will need to be publicized
