logging in
- open millennium (on desktop)
- login (get username/pswd from Nicole)
- service desk login
- personal login
- pop-up window: "print date due slips?"
- "no"
- if accidentally press "yes," it still won't print (not hooked up to our printer)
- two windows will appear on the taskbar
- main millennium window
- control box
- don't close this, or it will close the main millennium window
checking status
(book status "available," but not on shelf)
- click on icon at left, "search/holds"
- can search various fields; call # is the most effective
- ex.: "p 93.5 t85 1990"
- click on appropriate item in list (highlight in blue)
- will call up item record
- "LCHKIN" = date last checked in
- this will display even if item has been since checked out; check the "last due date" field to be sure
- check reshelving area
- if the date is yesterday's, it's probably down in circulation
- if date is about a month ago or so, patron should place a search with circulation
- "location" = will tell if item is in reserves, etc.
- "I type" = item type
- 1 = circulating material
- 22 = non-circulating (status = x, library use only)
check-out
- scan patron's ID
- check to be sure their photo matches them
- scan so that their photo is toward you
- yellow courtesy cards
- if expired, send to circulation
- otherwise, scan barcode
- any problems with ID: send patron to circulation
- scan item barcode
- lists automatic due date
- lists blocks of any/all types
- if there is a block, send them to fines desk
- open M-F 8-5, take credit/cash/check
- if fines desk closed, send to circulation
- take check/money order
- mark due date on slip
- mark info down on paper at GovDocs desk
check-out: library use only items
- scan item barcode
- pop-up window: "want to clear it?"
- "no"
- pop-up window: "checkout item anyway?"
- "yes"
- automatically sets a one-day checkout
- to change due date:
- click "change due date"
- login with initials/pswd (different from username/pswd login)
- pop-up calendar
- click on appropriate date
- if checking out multiple items with same due date, check the checkbox
- click "ok"
- mark due date slip with due date
- mark info down on paper at GovDocs desk
- tell patron to return item to service desk that checked it out (third floor)
- tell patron to let checkout desk person know that they have a library-use-only item
- desk person will check the due date slip
check-in
- scan item barcode
- "amount due" will display the assessed fine, if any
- write on date due slip:
- note when/where returned
- note fine amount, if any
status
- to change status:
- from item record, click "edit"
- will be asked to re-login (if at service desk)
- ask Valerie about "on search" procedure for GovDocs
- "on holdshelf" = all holds at circulation
other
- don't issue temporary IDs (have to qualify for a courtesy card)
- texshare patrons limited to 5 items at a time (regular patrons = no limits)
- can put "note" in patron record
- click "insert"
- used for payment plan, etc.
- will have next payment plan due date
- call circulation if have question or need note
- "view" = see all notes in a patron record
- main page: "file"
- shows recent patrons (last 10)
- main page: "edit"
- change preferences (font, color, etc.)
- main page: "admin"
- set initials (if at service desk)
- be sure to "clear initials" when leaving service desk
- to create lists, call Mary Ann for details
- for on search, overdues, etc.
- best done on nights or weekends (can tie-up system)
Note: Nicole can issue/change username/initials and password (can change all pswds to match, if desired).
